This piece was inspired by the stunning vintage “Drugs” sign located in the lobby of the iconic Parker Hotel in Palm Springs California. It was painstakingly recreated over one year to get the details as close as possible to the original. It is approximately 4/5 of the original sign (64″ W vs the original at 84″W).
There is only a hand full of these original signs in existence. Most of those are in much worse condition than the original this is based on and sell for upwards of $5000. This is an opportunity for those who appreciate it to own one as well.
It is made from sheet metal, cut and welded together to provide the sandwich style construction. The original sign is two-sided, this reproduction is single sided. If you desire a two-sided version please contact me. Painted to look aged and adorned with weathered appliques; five rosettes and a lions head, it is truly stunning. 55 glass cabochons (approx 30mm in diameter) are inset to replicate the cat’s eye reflectors used in the original. It is illuminated by RGB LED’s which provide an unlimited palette of color options. The lighting is controlled by remote and can be set to a single color or programmed to change colors, blink, fade, etc. The LED’s produce no heat, have an incredibly long lifespan and draw almost no power. There is a hinged access panel on the back side which provides access to the lighting. It can be plugged into any wall outlet. It also has two keyhole style holes in the backside to allow for easy and secure hanging.
Shipping is included in the price, it will be crated prior to shipping. Local pick-up is also available in Southern California, delivery is extra.
